Cloudy polished concrete after densifier is almost always leftover densifier residue that was not worked in or rinsed off. Fix it by grinding through 800 grit with clean resin pads such as resin floor polishing pads, then re-burnishing. If the haze is deep, drop back to 400 grit. Densifier is not a top coat - it must be ground in with the next polishing steps, not left to dry on the surface. Always buff off excess densifier within 20 minutes of application.
Lithium or sodium densifier reacts with free lime in concrete. If you flood it on and walk away, it dries on the surface instead of soaking in. The dried chemical leaves a white, cloudy film that looks like wax. Worse, the un-reacted densifier prevents the next resin grit from cutting, so the floor stays hazy forever.
Do not try to burnish over the haze. You must cut it off. Start at 800 grit with clean resin pads. If haze remains after one pass, drop to 400. After removing haze, go through 800, 1500, 3000 to restore gloss. Burnish at the end.
| Haze severity | Drop back to | Then finish |
|---|---|---|
| Light surface film | 800 resin | 1500, 3000, burnish |
| Moderate haze | 400 resin | 800, 1500, 3000 |
| Heavy white crust | Acid wash, then 200 metal | Resin sequence |
Fresh pads cut densifier residue; old glazed pads spread it. Use a 3-inch resin pad at 400 or 800 grit. Run dry with extraction. After haze is gone, use a wool burnishing pad to bring the mirror back. Do not apply more densifier to fix haze - that makes it worse.
For persistent haze around trowel bands, run a 200-grit copper-bond transitional pad to cut through the chemical film faster than straight resin.
A: Water spreads it. Dry polish it off with 800 resin pads. Wet mopping just pushes the residue around.
You applied densifier unevenly - one area got too much, another too little. Re-grind the whole floor to 800 and re-densify evenly.
Apply densifier, let it dwell 20 minutes, buff off excess, then run the next resin grit the same day. Do not let it dry overnight.
No. Dried densifier is insoluble. It stays until you grind it off.
Cloudy post-densifier floors are a buffing error, not a chemical error. Cut the residue off at 400-800, re-polish, and next time buff densifier in within 20 minutes. JOY TECH supplies the resin pads for haze repair; tell us how heavy the haze is for a recommended drop-back grit.
