Average response time: under 24 hours

Polishing can begin on concrete that is at least 7-14 days old, but the full polish looks best after 28 days of curing. Very green concrete (under 7 days) is too soft — diamond tooling tears the paste instead of cutting it. Start with coarse grinding at 14 days, then finish the resin steps after the slab has cured and dried to reduce moisture problems.
Fresh concrete contains moisture and has not reached design strength. Diamond tooling on green concrete plucks aggregate and smears the paste, leaving a rough surface. Curing lets the paste harden so grinding cuts cleanly. Moisture also matters for coatings and densifiers, which fail on damp slabs.
Use ceramic bond transitional pads when the concrete is still soft — they cut more gently than coarse metal bond.
The resin polishing pads should be held back until the surface is firm; resin on soft concrete loads and glazes quickly.
On green concrete, use softer action: lower pressure, finer grits early, and avoid aggressive metal bond. On cured hard concrete, start with coarse metal and follow the full sequence. If you must polish before 28 days, warn the client that moisture may affect the densifier and final appearance.
A: Coarse grinding can start around 7-14 days on many slabs, but the polished, densified finish should wait until closer to 28 days. Test a small area first.
A: The surface tears, aggregate pops, and the finish looks rough. It may need re-grinding once cured.
A: Yes — cure-and-seal compounds block the diamonds and can smear. Grind or chemically remove it in the first pass.
Grind from 14 days, finish the polish and densify after 28 days of curing, and always test moisture first. JOY TECH supplies transitional and resin pads for the full sequence; tell us your slab age and moisture reading for a tooling plan.
