Grout haze is a thin cement or slurry residue left on the polished surface after grouting or polishing. Remove it by damp-mopping with a pH-neutral cleaner, then re-polishing with a fine resin pad; stubborn haze may need a light 400-grit pass. Act while the haze is fresh — dried haze bonds hard and needs grinding to remove.
Haze looks like a white film that dulls the gloss. It is most visible on darker polished floors. Remove it before sealing — sealing locks the haze in.
Step 1: Clean the floor with a pH-neutral cleaner and water, then rinse and dry.
Step 2: For light haze, re-polish with a fine resin pad (1500-3000 grit) — the resin polishing pads polish the film off the surface.
Step 3: For heavy haze, run 400 grit resin to shave the film, then re-polish up to your final grit.
If the haze appeared after a re-polish, check that pads and water are clean; a burnishing pad after the final resin step often clears the last film.
| Haze type | What it looks like | Fastest fix |
|---|---|---|
| Light film | White sheen over the gloss | pH-neutral clean, then a fine resin pad pass |
| Heavy film | Opaque white layer that feels chalky | 400-grit resin pass, then re-polish to the finish grit |
| Bonded haze | Hard crust that will not wipe off | Light grinding step, then the full polish sequence |
A: pH-neutral soap helps light haze, but cement residue needs mechanical action (pad or light grinding) once it dries.
A: No — it is a surface film, not damage. Remove it promptly and the gloss returns.
A: Do not. The sealer locks the white film in and it becomes permanent. Remove haze first, then seal.
Clean with pH-neutral solution, re-polish with fine resin, and grind heavy haze back at 400 grit — then seal only a clean surface. JOY TECH supplies resin and burnishing pads for haze repair; share your floor finish and haze age for the right fix.
