A wet-look finish means 80+ gloss units under a 60-degree meter - achieved by grinding through 3000 grit resin pads, densifying, and burnishing with a wool or burnish pad. Use a full resin sequence 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000 with flexible 3-inch resin polishing pads, densify at 150 grit, and finish with a high-speed burnisher. Skipping any grit or skimping on densifier leaves a satin instead of a wet-look floor.
"Wet look" is a marketing term for mirror-gloss polished concrete. Under a 60-degree gloss meter: 20-40 units = honed, 40-60 = satin, 60-80 = polished, 80+ = high-gloss wet look. Achieving 80+ requires every prior grit to be perfectly flat - the mirror reflects every scratch you missed.
You cannot get wet look by starting at 1500. The mirror depends on a flat substrate. Sequence: 30/40 metal, 60/80 metal, 150 metal, ceramic transitional, densifier, resin 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000, burnish. Each grit must fully remove the previous scratch pattern before you move up.
| Grit | Gloss target | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 400 resin | 20-30 | Remove metal scratches |
| 800 resin | 40-50 | Satin polish |
| 1500 resin | 60-70 | High polish |
| 3000 resin | 75-85 | Wet look |
| Burnish | 85-95 | Mirror gloss |
Concrete that is not densified will not reach wet look - the porous surface scatters light. Apply lithium densifier after 150 metal, let it react, then grind it in. The densifier fills the pores and makes the surface reflective. A ceramic transitional pad between metal and resin helps the densifier sink in evenly.
After 3000, run a high-speed burnisher (1500-2500 RPM) with a burnishing pad. One or two passes at slow speed brings the gloss up 10-15 points. For extra wet look, use a little polish compound or a wool pad on the last pass.
Densified polished concrete holds gloss for years with occasional burnishing. Without densifier, gloss fades in 6-12 months.
No. True polished concrete gets gloss from densification and diamond polishing, not from sealer. Topical sealers add gloss but scratch and wear.
Yes, if the concrete is sound. Grind off 0.3 mm to reach fresh paste, then follow the full sequence. Old dense concrete often polishes up beautifully.
Either you skipped a grit, the pads are loaded, or the densifier was not worked in. Drop back to 800, clean pads, and re-run.
Wet look is a system: full resin sequence, densifier at the right stage, fresh 3000 pads, and a final burnish. Cut corners and you get satin, not mirror. JOY TECH supplies the complete resin grit set and burnishing pads for wet-look jobs; tell us your machine size for a pad kit.
