Most grinding failures trace back to a bond mismatch, worn tooling, or the way the grinder is being run. Glazing is a bond-matching issue, not a defective tool. Your diamond tool glazes when the metal-bonded matrix wears slower than the diamonds, so the exposed diamond crystals become even and burnished instead of sharp.

As you abrade, the bond matrix wears away and fresh, sharp diamond is exposed — that is how a diamond tool self-sharpens.
This is where most crews get it right - or lose time.

What you should know before starting.
Contractors who skip this stage usually end up redoing the floor.

If you are stripping coating layers before abrading, switch to a PCD tool for coating layer stripping or a PCD tool for epoxy resin floor stripping first, then finish with diamond segments.

For most floor-prep projects, a well-matched trapezoid abrading disc from our abrading range cuts fast and self-sharpens correctly on concrete between 2,500 and 8,000 PSI.

A: The practical answer is, Sometimes — extra pressure forces the bond to wear and exposes fresh diamond. But if the bond is genuinely too hard for the floor, it will glaze again rapidly. Dress the tool first, then decide whether you require a softer bond.
A: For most jobs, Run it against a dressing block or a scrap concrete block with coarse sand spread on it for 30–60 seconds at normal abrading speed. You can also use a diamond conditioning puck. You will see the surface go from shiny to slightly coarse — that means fresh diamond is exposed.
A: In short, Not quite. A dull tool has worn-out diamond that requires replacement. A glazed tool still has plenty of diamond — it just requires dressing or a bond change to expose fresh crystals.
A: The practical answer is, Move one stage softer in bond stiffness. If a mid-range matrix glazes, try a soft matrix designed for hard concrete. Tell your vendors the floor PSI and whether you abrade wet or dry.
A: For most jobs, Yes. Excessively high rotations per minute polishes the diamond instead of sawing. Keep metal-bonded matrix tools in the 800–1,500 rotations per minute range and let the equipment weight do the work.
